This is the best program that allows you to visit in a few days the best of Lima, Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machupicchu and has the amazing trek around the Ausangate mountain: Natural beauty, living history and ancient spirituality. Considered challenging, this 6 day trek is for people who have experience of trekking at high altitude. The route takes you through the Vilcanota mountain range. Ausangate is actually the 5th highest mountain in Peru, standing at 20,945 feet above sea level. On this trek, you'll climb and descend through the range, taking in sweeping Andean vistas, thermal lakes, mystical glaciers, green mossy passes and huge snow-capped peaks. The highest point of the trek is 16,800 feet above sea level and the highest campsite is at 15,255 feet.

DAY 1: ARRIVING IN LIMA

Upon arrival at any time reception, assistance and transfer to the selected hotel.

Notes:

- You are in charge of arriving in Lima by plane at any time. Our Services start in Lima and finish in Cusco

- Check in at the hotel starts after 1 - 2 pm


DAY 2: LIMA CITY TOUR - CUSCO

In the morning a trip to the essential Lima, “The City of Kings” including the most important architectural icons of the city, such as the Main Square, where you can find the Government Palace, the City Hall, the Cathedral and the Archbishop’s Palace.

Then, we continue with a visit to the San Francisco Convent, an architectonic jewel dating back to the 16th century. On our way to the modern area of the city, we will cross the exclusive district of San Isidro, the new financial heart of the city, we conclude our circuit in Miraflores, where we will visit the “Parque del Amor” (Love Park) an excellent spot to enjoy a great view of the Pacific Ocean.

After 3 pm transportation to the airport to take the flight to Cusco. Upon arrival reception, assistance and transfer to the selected hotel; where you should rest to adjust better to the altitude (11,000 ft a.s.l.) (B)

DAY 3: CUSCO

Free morning to visit the city and its museums: Inca, Preculumbian Art & The Machupicchu Museum. Afternoon Combined tour; visit the Koricancha (Temple of the Sun), Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay. (B)

Note: Whenever it will be possible; to avoid the crowds and in the high season we will program this tour in the morning.


DAY 4: SACRED VALLEY: PISAC RUINS, MARKET & OLLANTAYTAMBO

Visit PISAC located right at the entrance to the Sacred Valley, the amazing Inca city that constitutes one of the most important Archaeological Parks in the region. Visit the fine temples, palaces and the well preserved and vast farming terraces; built even as far as the edge of precipices that still keep their straight sometimes vertical aqueducts; an imposing and unforgettable sight that also offers very beautiful landscapes. Later visit PISAC the Colonial Village, where you will see the famous "Indian Market" and the handicrafts or "souvenirs" market, this is your chance to enjoy a blend of color, traditions and people, and bargain for exotic craftworks.

Machupicchu: Wonder of the World

After Lunch at Urubamba Village, tour to the oldest continuously inhabited dwellings in South America, where people are still living in the same houses and palaces as 500 years ago; the ancient Incan town of OLLANTAYTAMBO, with its very impressive constructions built with huge boulders and its ancient heritage that will leave us astonished. Overnight Ollantaytambo. (B, L)


DAY 5: SACRED VALLEY - MACHUPICCHU

Train ride to Aguas Calientes town (1 1/2 hours), bus ride to Machupicchu (1/2 hour) and private guided visit (2 1/2 hours) of the "Holy City of the Incas", the highlight of any trip to South America. Overnight Aguas Calientes. Optional visit of the hotsprings (tickets not included) (B)

Note: Whenever it will be possible; to avoid the crowds and in the high season we will program this tour in the afternoon.

DAY 6: MACHUPICCHU – HUAYNAPICCHU - CUSCO

On your own, early visit of Machupicchu; to spot the amazing sun rise and take the optional short hikes to Huaynapicchu Peak (2 hours) & the temple of the Moon, to the Sun gate (2 hours) or Montana Machupicchu (3 hours) and the Inca Bridge. Afternoon return to Ollantaytambo by train (1 1/2 hours) and transfer by bus to the hotel in Cusco. (1 1/2 hours) (B)


Note: If you are interested in climbing to Huaynapicchu or Montana Machupicchu the entrance fees are Included but you have to let us know in advance, we must buy tickets ASAP, there is a short limit per day.


AUSANGATE TREK: You MUST be in VERY good shape and adapted to the altitude. The described camps and hiking times are approximate; they may vary according to your physic conditions and guides recommendations

Ausangate Trek

DAY 7: CUSCO – TINKI – UPIS

Leaving by vehicle southwards we arrive at Huambutio and start our winding ascent to the village of Huancarane. From here, the road winds its way uphill until we reach small villages of shepherds and weavers in the highland savannah. After 2 hours the Vilcanota Range finally looms in the distance, with Ausangate and Colqe Cruz mountains dominating the landscape. Continue to Tinki where we will meet the horsemen (arrieros) and start the trek at 3,800m (12,464 ft). The trail crosses the puna or highland, approaching the base of the Ausangate Massif and provides amazing views of the rolling landscape. Camp at Upis, right below the snow capped mountains around at 4,400m (14,432 ft).(B,L,D).

DAY 8: UPIS – PUCACOCHA

We slowly ascend up Upispampa, getting closer to the north face of Ausangate. An ascent up the Inkapampa valley brings us to the Arapa Pass at 4,750m (15,580 ft), from where we have a wonderful view of the Ausangate.

We border and traverse the arid rolling landscape to then slowly descend to the small lakes past the valley of Samacancha to get the Lake Pucacocha below the Ausangate glaciers; a beautiful campsite at 4,575m (15,006 ft). (B,L,D)


DAY 9: PUCACOCHA - PALOMANI - CHILLCA

A slow ascent will bring us to Alcatani pass at 4,850m (15,908 ft) to then begin our descent to Ausangatecocha; a beautiful blue lake formed by the melt-off of the glacier with a view of the southern face and its huge glacial formation. From Ausangatecocha we start a steep ascent to the Palomani pass at 5,050 (16,564). As we cross into the valley of Machuraqay beautiful views of Mts. Caracol and Mariposa with its cone peak. Descend to Chillcaphinaya at 4,400m (14,520 ft) a valley filled with grazing Alpacas. Overnight at Chillca. (B,L,D)

 

Ausangate Trek

DAY 10: CHILLCA – COMERCOCHA

We begin our ascent to the pass of Jampa, 5,000m (16,400ft). Mt. Callangate with its jagged spires covered in ice dominates our trek as we edge our way over the pass with its retreating glacier and ice-fields. The amazing landscape offers a view of the lake of Comercocha and Harmacocha. We enter the watershed of Mt. Ninaparayoc with its lake below, walk down along this valley with Mt. Ausangate behind us (we have now completed almost a full circle around the mountain).We set up camp on the shores of lake Comercocha at 4,600m (15,088ft). (B,L,D)


DAY 11: COMERCOCHA – PAJCHANTA

The trail descends towards the village of Pajchanta, where we set up the last camp at 4,245m (13,924 ft). Pajchanta hosts thermal baths for the enthusiasts. (B,L,D)

DAY 12: PAJCHANTA - TINKI – CUSCO

Leaving our community camp-site with a chance to buy local textiles, we head down to Tinki crossing the vast hills and fields that are occupied by local farmers until reaching Tinki at midday. After lunch we get on our vehicle returning to Cusco the way we came. (B,L)


DAY 13: CUSCO – LIMA

Transfer to the airport for departure flight. (B)

**Note: If you want to bring more luggage or ride a horse, you can hire an extra horse for US$200, for all the trek and the horse will carry a maximum of 20 kg – 40 pounds; including your sleeping bag. (Usually 1 horse between 2 persons is enough). However even with a personal horse, you will still need to bring and carry a day pack with essential items.
