Choquequirao Trek to Machupicchu

OVERVIEW:

This is the best programme that allows you to visit in a few days the best of Cusco, the Sacred Valley and has the amazing trek linking the 2 best Inca sites Choquequirao and Machupicchu, it is also one of the best combinations to see and be in contact with the wonderful landscapes of the Andes, the cloud forest, its flora and fauna. Choquequirao already rivals Machu Picchu in size and splendour - and each year more of its buildings and llama-decorated terraces are uncovered. Our approach to this 'Cradle of Gold' is via the awe-inspiring canyon of the Apurimac River, involving a descent and ascent of almost 2000 metres. We then have a day to explore the site before trekking through the rugged Cordillera Vilcabamba, a region dominated by impressive 6000 metre peaks including Pumasillo and Salcantay. Following a rarely used Inca trail, we cross the Totora Pass (4500m), then turn north to descend the Rio Colpa, passing unspoilt Andean villages where the Quechua people still wear traditional dress. Arriving at the cloud forest of the Rio Urubamba, this great trek ends with a guided tour of Machupicchu and a climb to Huaynapicchu!
